Transforming Floors
Na Saoirsí Kinsale
Set low within the farmland of West Cork, lies a home shaped by memory, restraint, and the rhythms of the land.
The brief was handled with restraint. Rather than maximising floor area, the design focuses on a modest, efficient home where spaces serve multiple purposes. The house is conceived as a simple pavilion, organised along two clear axes. On the primary axis, kitchen, dining, and living spaces, along with the main bedroom, are arranged to frame the most compelling views. A parallel spine accommodates the more functional elements of the house to the rear, including utility spaces, secondary bedrooms, and a home office. A shared corridor links the two, with sliding doors allowing the plan to adapt between openness and privacy as needed.
This palette continues internally. Burned timber extends into the entrance and circulation spaces, blurring the boundary between inside and out. Polished concrete floors incorporate aggregate from a local quarry, grounding the interior in the geology of the site. The main living spaces are calm and restrained.

“We are extremely pleased with our polished concrete flooring, which forms a fundamental part of the overall design aesthetic of our home.
Martin was professional and helpful throughout the process, clearly explaining the installation and the various finishing options available to us. He also provided straightforward advice on cleaning and aftercare, which has been very helpful.
We are delighted with the quality of the finished product and the service we received. We would have no hesitation in highly recommending Martin and Cutsue to anyone considering polished concrete flooring”.
